San Marcos, TX – Volunteering is an excellent way to give back to the community. Many students at Texas State University need volunteer hours for fraternities, sororities and honor societies. One way to earn service hours and volunteer in the community is by joining Bobcats for United Way, the new student chapter of United Way of Hays County now at Texas State University.
Volunteering not only gives back to the community, but it also gives students new skills. Volunteering helps you network, learn new job skills and career experience and combat depression by increasing your self-confidence.
“Volunteering is not only a humbling experience but also a great way to get involved in San Marcos. Not only that, any kind of volunteer work looks great on your resume, helps build your job skills and network of professional contacts as well as personal contacts,” says Brenda Lopez, president of Bobcats for United Way.
Bobcats for United Way gives students an opportunity to work with United Way is mentoring and tutoring programs as well as event planning and fundraising. Students who are interested in volunteering can attend an interest meeting on Monday, September 22 at 6 p.m. in the LBJ Student Center.
