Seeking community leaders for funds distribution

San Marcos,TX –United Way of Hays County seeks a team of community leaders to volunteer on the 2013-2014 Funds Distribution Committee. The committee plays a vital role in reviewing applications from Hays County programs that wish to receive funding.

Members of the committee volunteer for four days, May 7,9,13 and 15 from 12:00pm-5:00pm each day, during which time they will review presentations and application materials from local organizations whose programs meet criteria for United Way’s three focus areas of health, education and income.  The committee is to review all materials, and collectively submit a recommendation to the United Way of Hays County board of directors regarding funding status and amounts for each applying agency.  Participation on the committee is available for any interested individuals; however, positions are limited.

“This is an invaluable opportunity for interested individuals to dedicate time to a worthwhile cause, and be hands-on with how community dollars are distributed back into the community. Volunteering on this committee lends a new meaning to our organization’s mission to ‘Live United’ ” said Michelle Harper, Executive Director.

In the 2012, more than 50,000 residents received cardinal services through United Way and the 15 partner agencies which received a combined $170,500 in funding.

United Way of Hays County has moved to a community impact model to better target critical areas of need in the county. With this direction, the organization will not only fund programs which help to improve the lives of citizens, but will also direct energy into national programs, adapted locally, and designed to promote health of residents, and  early childhood education and school readiness.

“With this shift, the Funds Distribution Committee plays an even more critical role in defining the functions of United Way’s funding,” says Kim Porterfield, Board Chair.“We can use all hearts, hands and minds who want to better the community and have fun while doing so.”

Please notify United Way of Hays County of your interest in this committee by April 19. For more information on United Way and its partner agencies and to volunteer call 512-353-1420 or email
